This is basically how the modern banking system works.
Everyone’s just passing around the same money and calling it theirs. You deposit cash, the bank loans most of it out. That person spends it, someone else deposits it, repeat.
On paper, it looks like everyone has money. But it’s all tied up in IOUs. It works, until too many people want their cash at the same time.
The Three Stooges weren’t that far off.
