Jane and Jesse almost had a way out of Breaking Bad. One account of the showโ€™s development says the writers considered having them go to rehab together, then leave Albuquerque with Jesseโ€™s money. It would have kept Jane in the series longer and given Jesse a chance at stability much earlier. The version that aired takes them right to the edge of that future. Jane gets Walt to hand over the money, and she and Jesse talk about getting clean and starting over in New Zealand. That night, they use h*roin again. Walt finds Jane choking and lets her d*e. Jesse goes to rehab alone, believing her d*ath was his fault. Carrying a loss that follows him through the rest of the series.
Reggae music: the soundtrack of paradise, born from protest. Iโ€™m all the way in the Maldives at a luxury resort, thousands of miles from home, and whatโ€™s playing by the pool? Reggae. And itโ€™s not just Bob Marley. Itโ€™s deep cuts and artists youโ€™d only expect to hear on a sound system in Kingston. This is what gets me. Reggae came out of struggle. It was the music of resistance, of speaking truth to power, of a people demanding to be heard. Now that same sound is what the whole world reaches for when they want to feel sunshine, freedom and peace. From Bali to Thailand to the Maldives, wherever someone builds paradise, Jamaican music is playing. One tiny island in the Caribbean, and weโ€™re still shaping global culture: music, food, language, style. Tell me how anyone can deny that Jamaica is the greatest island in the world. Iโ€™ll wait. Our global influence makes me so proud. Where in the world have you heard reggae somewhere you didnโ€™t expect? Tell me in the comments.
