When I first came across modern Caribbean restaurant @lucialosangeles on Instagram I don’t think they were even open yet. It was just preview pictures of some menu items and the interior restaurant space, but from those pictures alone it was an instant follow, and immediately added to my must eat list. I finally made it, and it did not disappoint one bit. If anything it exceeded my expectations. I will say, the amount of food I ordered was enough for two people, but there is not one item I ordered that I would want to pass on, so come with a friend/date, or be prepared to take some food home. The housemade milkbread is insane. I was almost scared to use the coconut butter or sorrel-apricot jam since it tasted so good on its own, but by the end I was slathering each bite with both options. Another appetizer, the plantain expressions had plantains three ways (maduras, mole, chips)🤤. The pastelon, like a caribbean lasagna using plantains as the pasta and layered with wagyu sofrito and pecorino béchamel, is a perfect entree sized portion but I still wanted to try the jerk lamb shank 😅 and my God. I had to take a massacred pic so you can see how that meat is falling off the bone. Somehow I managed to find room for a few bites of the dasheen puffs for dessert.
