1/6 Girl In Box Series
As a post grad, 22.8 year old artist, I keep coming back to one motif; Girl In Box. I’m sure you can imagine why that is. Through my stubborn artist block, built by the frustration of the translucent job market, and my ever-consistent mourning of the walkable, sociable, and eventful atmosphere that was my college experience, Girl in Box was the only thing that came out when I picked up my paintbrush in my childhood bedroom/studio.
The reality is that girls are always in boxes. They’re packaged by parents and gods and media and painters and songwriters and sometimes themselves. I am really an escapist with a dream. And I put girls in boxes with my paintbrush because it is what keeps me sane (what could that mean about my psyche? I’m not ready to unpack that one yet.)
Anyway, these pieces are subject to change. The reason why I reveal them to you now is because my stagnancy is theirs. I’ve grown to see their unfinished-ness as my own. Maybe they will change and grow as I do, or even more likely, they will never change, and they will live on as the girl I am now.
