I used to think peace was something I’d arrive at later. When the next deal closed. After the next goal. After I’d proven enough, built enough, become enough. I was always running towards a version of life where I’d finally get to slow down. This Fall, standing barefoot on a cold dock with leaves turning around me, I realized something. The trees don’t wait until they’re finished to let go. They release right in the middle of the season, a little at a time, and they’re still beautiful while doing it. I’m done waiting. I stood on one leg and found my balance. I reached higher than felt comfortable. I knelt by the water and breathed. And somewhere between shakiness and laughter, I felt it. I wasn’t on my way to peace anymore. I’ve become it. Strong enough to hold my ground. Soft enough to let life move through me. Both at the same time. That’s the practice. I’m grateful for every season that got me here. Especially the hard ones. They taught me how to be still. If you’ve been waiting for permission to slow down, this is it. What are you ready to let go of this season? 👇🏼

2023 → 2026. Three years later. More school shootings. More children lost. 🔸Yesterday, three children and a teacher were killed at an elementary school in Oregon. At least 149 shooting incidents have occurred at K–12 schools in the U.S. this year. 🔸In 2023, I spoke with Dr. Lois Lee and Dr. James McCarthy for Katie Couric Media about firearm violence and its devastating impact on children and families. I’m resharing those conversations because the message remains painfully relevant. 🔸We cannot normalize this. We cannot become numb. And we cannot allow another tragedy to pass without asking what we can do to prevent the next one. 🔸Take one action today: Practice safe firearm storage. Ask your school about violence prevention. Support evidence-based solutions. Learn about the policies being considered in your community. 🔸Make your voice heard. Our children deserve to grow up without fearing for their lives at school. Awareness matters. But awareness without action is not enough. #GunViolencePrevention #SchoolSafety #ProtectOurKids #PediatricHealth #pediatrics
