This morning, we gathered at the New York City Police Memorial to add the names of 42 officers who lost their lives in service to this city. Among those we honored today were Detective First Grade Didarul Islam, former Chief of Department Joseph Esposito, and those who died from 9/11-related illnesses. Each name represents a life that meant far more than we could ever capture in an inscription. By placing them here, we make a promise that they will mean something to generations of New Yorkers too. May the memories of these 42 fallen members be a blessing.
