I learned early on that my value was tied to being useful.

I took on the invisible mental load, monitoring every room, managing everyone’s emotions, and never letting anyone pour into me. The hardest part was getting honest about who taught everyone to expect me to carry it all (I did). I built the standard for how to love me myself…

the exhaustion wasn’t from having too much to do.. it was from never feeling allowed to stop. I’d be pacing the kitchen at 9:30pm folding towels because my chest physically tightened if I tried to sit on the couch.

and unlearning that doesn’t happen overnight. it starts the first time you catch the urge to jump up and prove you’re useful, and let yourself stay on the couch anyway and rest.

& I put together a 21-day guide with the daily practices I’m currently using to unlearn this reflex and stop disappearing. they drop this monday, oct 5th..

New York City just claimed the top spot on Oxford Economics’ 2026 Global Cities Index, topping a ranking of 1,000 cities worldwide with a perfect overall score of 100.

The index, published September 26, evaluates cities across five categories: economics, human capital, quality of life, environment, and governance.

London came in second and Paris third, an unchanged top three from last year. The U.S. dominated the rest of the top ten, with Seattle at number four, San Francisco at five, Boston at seven, and San Jose at nine. Dublin landed at six and Zurich at ten. European and North American cities overall captured 78 of the top 100 spots on the index.

New York scored a perfect 100 in both the overall ranking and the economics category, with its size, labor market strength, and ability to attract highly skilled workers and businesses cited as the defining factors behind its position at the top.

De tranen wellen op in m’n ogen. Ik kan ze niet stoppen. Mijn frustratie is te groot. De woede borrelt in me. Ik voel m’n hartslag versnellen. Het gevoel dat ik uit m’n vel kan barsten. De onmacht. Waar komt het vandaan. Waarom kunnen anderen deze macht over mij hebben. Kunnen ze dit in mij teweeg brengen. Ik moet het me niet laten raken. Ben sterker dan dat. Maar het is zo moeilijk. Als het onterecht voelt. Of als ik het niet snap. Als het voor mij simpel is terwijl het voor een ander blijkbaar ingewikkeld is. Als het voelt alsof je opdraait voor andermans keuzes.

Maar, dat is precies waar de kronkel zit. Daar heb je geen controle over. Alleen over jezelf. Sta ik achter wat ik doe. Heb ik voor mezelf de juiste keuzes om de juiste redenen gemaakt. Ja? Laat het dan gaan. Leg het naast me neer. En wandel rustig verder op mijn eigen manier op mijn pad.
