Olga Rerbo is a photographer based in Brisbane, Australia. Born in Russia and raised in Belarus, she later lived in Israel before moving to Australia in 2023. Her practice focuses primarily on film photography, female portraiture, self-portraiture, and the documentation of personal and everyday experience.
“My work explores self-portraiture as a way of observing personal change and preserving moments that might otherwise disappear. I use the camera to document my body, surroundings, relationships, motherhood, travel, and experiences of migration and loss. The photographs are not created as performances or idealised representations of the self. They emerge from ordinary life and often reflect a particular emotional or physical state. Through self-portraiture, I am both the person making the image and the person being observed.”
“Working mainly with film allows uncertainty, distance, and time to become part of the process. I cannot fully control how the image will appear, and this gap between intention and result often reveals something unexpected. Each photograph becomes a record of a temporary version of myself and an attempt to preserve a moment before it changes.”
