Hidden deep inside the forests of Iwate lies a place almost entirely forgotten by time: the Mogusa Forge Ruins (舞草鍛冶遺跡).

Over a thousand years ago, starting back in the Heian period (794–1185), legendary swordsmiths worked right here among these trees. They smelted iron sand to forge the ancient Mogusa-to—the early blades that paved the way for the Japanese katana.

Standing here in the quiet forest, surrounded by old mossy stones and aging wooden structures, you realize just how many generations these trees and buildings have watched pass by. From ancient blacksmiths and Heian-era warriors, to local villagers, to someone like me standing here today... and who knows? A hundred years from now, long after we're gone, maybe another traveler will walk through these same quiet woods, look at these trees, and feel the exact same sense of wonder. 🌿⚔️✨
