President Trump opens the door to red-dyed diesel on America’s highways, giving truckers a new option as fuel costs squeeze drivers. The new executive order temporarily allows the fuel, normally reserved for off-road equipment, to be used on highways and defers the federal excise tax through the end of the year without interest or penalties. The administration estimates truckers could save more than $100 per fill-up where states also provide matching relief.
“Once again, a Brazilian election is occurring in the midst of a colossal corruption scandal,” writes Malu Gaspar, the journalist who exposed the latest scandal in the country, in a guest essay. Big scandals are nothing new to Brazil. But this one, in which Banco Master drained 60bn reais ($11.4bn) from the financial system and was propped up by a sprawling network of favours, dubious contracts and bribes, is extraordinary. The main reason is the unprecedented involvement of Supreme-Court justices. The affair has done “enormous damage”, Ms Gaspar writes. “Brazilians, already fed up with scandal, are losing faith in their institutions.” Stamping out corruption “is no longer a matter of choice”, but of the survival of democracy, she urges. Tap the link in our bio to learn why Ms Gaspar believes the solution starts with overhauling Brazil’s judiciary and budget. Illustration: @dan.will
AD Some pieces just feel right. 🤍 The new Ultralight with Cashmere by @Intimissimi combines an effortless lightness with the softness of cashmere. Simple, timeless and sooo easy to wear! A little touch of softness for the season ✨
@thejasminebrand: #AppleTV is keeping Imperfect Women around for another chapter, renewing the thriller for Season 2 with the story shifting its focus to Kerry Washington’s character, Eleanor. The first season followed Eleanor and Mary (Elisabeth Moss) as they investigated the m*rder of their best friend Nancy (Kate Mara), but the new installment will pick up from Eleanor’s flash-forward in the finale and follow her back to her hometown in the affluent Black enclave of Martha’s Vineyard, where secrets and scandals threaten to shake up what she thought she knew about her past. Washington and Moss will both return as executive producers, though there are currently no plans for Moss’ Mary or Joel Kinnaman’s Robert to appear. Leslie Odom Jr. and Sheryl Lee Ralph, who play Eleanor’s brother and mother, respectively, are expected to return as cast deals are finalized. With no second book to pull from, Season 2 will be based on an original story from creator Annie Weisman and Justin Hillian, who will serve as co-showrunners.
