I was kindly gifted The Summer Book by
@tandemcollectiveuk to celebrate the release of the film adaptation, and it feels like the perfect book to have in your hands this summer.
Set on a small island in the Gulf of Finland, this is a gentle collection of moments shared between a grandmother and her young granddaughter. Each chapter feels like its own little reflection on life; childhood, ageing, nature, grief, love and everything in between.
There isn’t really an overarching plot to keep you turning the pages. Instead, it’s about the quiet observations, conversations and fleeting moments that make up a life. It’s the kind of book you can read a few pages of, put down, and pick up again whenever you’re in the mood.
I think this is one to read slowly, letting each little chapter sit with you for a while.
