Autism family's true reality

Mason's behaviours have really spiked over the last couple of days, and I think a lot of autism parents will understand how being stuck in the house can sometimes make things even harder.

So today we decided to take him somewhere SEND-friendly. Somewhere he could burn off some energy, and where we wouldn't have to worry as much about people staring or judging.

We thought it might help him.

But we lasted 15 minutes. Maximum.

Sometimes, no matter how much you plan or how hard you try, things just don't work out.

That's our reality sometimes. 💙

Anyone else have days like this?

I'll be honest, I used to hear "you need more friends" and think... when, exactly? I don't have three hours on a Saturday morning for brunch anymore.

Then I talked with my friend @AdamGrant about his new book, Vibe, and it changed how I think about it. Instead of searching for one best friend, he breaks relationships into a few types: associates, allies, pals, and companions. Isn't there so much freedom in that?

Think about who in your life is an ally, a pal, or a companion, and send this to them.

Comment PODCAST and I'll send you a link to watch my full conversation with Adam, including how to help your kid build a circle of friends that fits them.

Don’t let Pinterest steer you toward a generic Halloween boo basket for your alt girl. Here are some things she won’t donate by December: indie makeup (@meltcosmetics @dieverunecosmetics @lethalcosmetics @kaleidosmakeup @joliebeauty ), her favorite albums on physical media, a tarot or oracle deck (@stormcloudoracle @rainbowhearttarot ), something for her weird collection (@warmies_usa @ewizuhbif @xclown_soupx @etsy @jellycat ), caffeine (@bloom ), a candle (@wertherandgray @hereticparfum ) or fragrance oil (@house_of_hecate_ @ghoulishdelights ), and a Halloween date night craft kit.

You don’t need to spend a ton. Just show that you’re paying attention to what she likes.
