Happy Birthday, Hip Hop! 🎤
On August 11, 1973, a back to school party in the Bronx sparked a cultural movement that has changed music, art, fashion, language and politics around the world. Now more than 50 years later, hip hop continues to inspire creativity and give communities a way to talk about their realities and imagine what the future holds.
Today, the Bunche Center and the Hip Hop Initiative, led by Dr. H. Samy Alim, celebrate the artists, DJs, emcees, dancers, writers and communities who built the culture and continue to move it forward.
