For years, Lindsay and I saved with the dream of one day putting in a pool. I wish we could have done it while Jackson was here, but I treasure the backyard memories we did create.

This past Christmas, we told our four youngest kids we were finally building a pool. They were thrilled, even knowing it meant no vacations this year.

After asking around, we chose Bright Pools in Midlothian, TX, owned by Justin Bright. He seemed genuine, family‑oriented, and walked us through the process. In March, we signed the contract — pool completion in ~60 days, just in time for summer — and paid 60% upfront.

The first month, almost nothing happened. Then workers dug the hole, and progress stalled again. Justin kept reassuring us everything was on track.

By June, we met to discuss changes. I asked directly if we should worry; he promised the pool would be done by the end of June and that his business was solid. Soon after, he requested the final payment. Against my hesitation, we paid.

I regretted it immediately.

Communication slowed, work became sporadic, and Justin began sharing personal struggles. I stayed patient, respectful, and even shared our story about Jackson. By July, he stopped responding to me — then to Lindsay. Now, his phone is disconnected.

We’re left with a half‑finished pool, an unusable backyard, and a summer our kids mostly spent inside. School starts tomorrow, and I feel like I failed my family for trusting his promises.

Since then, we’ve learned subcontractors are unpaid, other homeowners are facing similar situations, and there may be lawsuits against Bright Pools.

If anyone can recommend someone to finish our pool — or a good lawyer — we’d appreciate it. Sharing this is hard, but if it saves another family from this experience, it’s worth it.

Damn, that’s brutal. I had similar situations with contractors on my never ending remodel. I feel your pain on this one! Go after that guy - people need to be held accountable.

I am so sorry. This has to be so frustrating and infuriating. I actually just saw a a tiktok 2 days ago from a lady in Midlothian warning people of Bright pools and she mentioned there is a Facebook page created for people in the same situation.

I’m sorry to hear you’re having to go through this with your builder. I’m a pool builder as well, and I know how stressful the process can be when things aren’t going the way they should. If you have any questions or need some advice on your project, feel free to shoot me a DM. I’d be more than happy to help you out and guide you through the process however I can.

I’m so sorry Ryan. Maybe you should reach out to a news station or journalist who will bring more awareness to the issue to force retribution. Social media can be a powerful influence as well. I will see what I can do to help. P.S. I came here to say belated happy birthday, but I’ll also say you are definitely not a failure to your kids. That contractor is. You are an amazing dad and your only fault is being too empathetic. Which I would argue is not a fault. It’s the fault of others who prey on the kindness of people like you. I love you and will help in any way I can.

Is he bonded or insured? So disgusted you are dealing with this! We had an awful uninsured roofer and we are still in a lawsuit 2 years later. Lost about $400k

We used bama pools and he was super easy to work with. Got Kally what she wanted under budget. Honest and reliable. Dig started late November and pool was filling up at Christmas. Message me if interested
