This isn’t to say that everyone who takes outside funding is shady, it’s just a reminder that I could have retired long ago if I wanted to take the kind of money that’s available in this space. The kind of money that pays $10 million + a year if you’re willing to say the things people want you to say and you have a large enough platform. If you want to follow someone with real expertise who’s actually independent, hello. It’s good to meet you. 😘

A man earned $8 million by using bots to stream hundreds of thousands of AI-generated songs billions of times, reportedly surpassing Taylor Swift’s streaming numbers in the process.

Michael Smith operated thousands of fake accounts across Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, and YouTube Music between 2017 and 2024, generating fraudulent streams that produced millions in royalties.

Prosecutors said his operation involved as many as 10,000 active bot accounts, exposing how automated streaming can manipulate music platforms into paying for songs with no genuine listeners.

Traders predict only a 7% chance Taylor Swift will be the #1 Spotify artist this year.
