I mean…despite the weak evidence you propose for the whole statement, what is the term visual economics? I guess you are trying to say visual marketing, but building the thesis on a hindsight bias is still obnoxiously stupid and misleading, like how you measure the strong relationship between people impressed by the visual effect and the consequence of buying what they see? Let me tell you what your problem is. You are fully blaming the poor is financially manipulated by the capitalist, and this is the same logic saying everyone in the first world has to save all the starving kids in Africa. The conceit by pulling out the moral agency of the underprivileged, automatically define them as victims, is just so lazy and hypocritical. Yes, I won’t deny that the rich should take more obligation to the society; but saying the poor can’t do nothing just because the external environment sucks, wouldn’t you think you are also “extracting” the initiative and possibility of human beings? This is recently the most unprofessional leftist nonsense speaking I’ve seen, you should really do more study if you see brainwashing the fresher in the college as your lifetime self-actualization. By the way holding a book in a speech doesn’t make you more convincible. As a Chinese, it is really shameful to see people in the West start to embrace the old communist bullshit, self-loathing just because of living in the first world, and think every evil stuff is produced by the capitalist(rightist). People who live in the poor can still live an amazing life with their own choice; and if you really care, maybe start taking about why dumping billions of aids over 60 years doesn’t change most African countries’ destiny.
