How can we build a museum without building a museum?
This summer school approaches the replica as a way to access something that cannot be accessed — not as a copy, but as a shift, a translation that moves sideways rather than forward.
We work through models, doubles, reductions, enlargements, repetitions; through gestures that stretch or compress, multiply, simplify or complicate. Forms and ideas emerge through making; thinking does not come first but moves within the process. The replica may take different forms — physical or digital, object or image, model or interface.
As a point of reference, we look at a local collection in Nevers: small boxed scenes made in verre filé, where entire worlds are constructed out of fine threads of glass, shells and paper.
With this in mind, 14 students gathered during a week of scorching heat to brainstorm, exchange ideas, and create objects that will be exhibited in Ravisius Textor starting in September.
