Black Sistory

William Tucker is remembered as the first documented Black child born in the English colonies that would become the United States. Born around 1624 or 1625 to Anthony and Isabella, two Africans forced into colonial Virginia, his entire recorded life is reduced to one line… “William, their child, baptized.” After that, the historical record dropped silent. His story stands as a powerful reminder that slavery not only exploited Black lives. It also erased countless Black names, stories, and futures. #iamblacksistory
