Five things I think make a room feel calm 🤍 I’ve always been drawn to rooms that feel calm, warm and welcoming rather than overly styled, and over the years I’ve found there are a few things that make a real difference. 1. A neutral palette of colour and materials
Keeping the colours soft and natural creates a sense of calm, while bringing in different materials stops the space from feeling flat. 2. Layered lighting
I think good lighting can completely change a room. A mix of lamps, wall lights and softer ambient lighting adds warmth, depth and interest, especially in the evening. 3. Warm woods and layered textiles
Wood brings warmth and texture, while rugs, cushions, throws and curtains help soften a space and make it feel comfortable and inviting. 4. Mixing old and new
I love the character that comes from mixing pieces from different periods. It instantly creates a warmer, more relaxed and lived-in feel — and means everything doesn’t look like it came from the same shop. 5. Plants and fresh foliage 🌿
Not only do they bring colour, texture and life into a room, but being surrounded by a little bit of nature can make a space feel more connected and calming too. For me, it’s never about creating a ‘perfect’ room. It’s about creating a space that feels good to be in — somewhere that feels calm, comfortable and very much like home.
