For Halloween this year, I’ll be going as a mom who tries too hard. Help what’s an easy kids costume?
One thing I’ll always believe is that accountability matters just as much as growth. I’m not perfect, and I’ve never claimed to be. I’ve made mistakes, hurt people without intending to, reacted in ways I’m not proud of, and had moments where I could’ve handled things better. I’m still learning, still growing, and still working on myself, just like everyone else. But one thing I never want to lose is the willingness to look at myself honestly. If I’ve made a mistake, I want to be able to own it. If I’ve hurt someone, I want to take responsibility for my part. And when I’m given the opportunity to make things right, I want to have the humility to do so. Growth isn’t just about talking about kindness, healing, or being a better person. It’s about being willing to recognize the moments when we fall short of those things, too. I hope I never become so focused on who I’m trying to be that I stop being honest about who I am today. There will always be room for me to learn, to apologize, to do better, and to grow. We can hold ourselves accountable without hating ourselves for being human. We can acknowledge our mistakes without letting them define us. And we can choose to do better without pretending we’ve always gotten it right. The goal isn’t to be perfect. It’s to be honest enough to grow. 🤍 What’s one thing personal growth has taught you about yourself? When designers Joe and Emily Reilly of @coalcornwall fell in love with a pair of derelict Cornish cottages, more than 250 years old, they embarked on a labour of love. The back-to-back cottages had stood empty for five years, and before that, they'd been home to an eccentric vet. ‘There were animal sized cubby holes indoors and mounds of discarded needles outside.’ says Joe. At the link in bio, see how the couple transformed the family home, inspired by a much-loved children’s book. Video by @fliegauf_studio Produced by @pratyushsarup Design by @coalcornwall
