I haven’t run very much since March (all of the above, tooth, hip, life). I marvel at how much my fitness depends on running my miles and stretching afterwards. When I run my miles I always add a prison workout on the floor of whatever room I am stretching in (100 crunches, 15 pushups, 20 squats). If I do that for a month I’m incredibly fit. But here’s the thing.
When you have an established daily practice, even when you let off the gas and walk your miles for weeks on end, running again is the easy switch of a gear. It doesn’t require turning over the entire engine of a stalled car.
I have been in and out of fighting shape over the last 3 years. But vanity weight aside, I’m healthy, inspired and empowered by the consistent one-mile gains.
My family slept in this morning at the beach, but I got up and ran my mile. Because I have an established daily practice. No one else is working out, waiting to return back to real life for exercise. These one-mileing 11 minutes of my life are incredibly important. For fitness, sure. But mostly, for consistent, reliable happiness.
This is your sign to start your own daily one-mile practice. I’m convinced there is no better life-hack. This is mile number 1,031 for me. Join me.
