Despite diplomatic efforts to ease tensions, Indian and Chinese troops continue to face each other at multiple locations along the Arunachal Pradesh border, Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) Director General Shatrujeet Singh Kapur has confirmed.

Speaking at an event in Rajasthan’s Alwar on Thursday, October 22, Kapur revealed that confrontations with China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) are still taking place along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). He praised the newly raised elite Shaurya commandos for their role in handling the ongoing face-offs, saying the specialised personnel had demonstrated exceptional capabilities in challenging border situations.

The revelations come amid renewed concerns over Chinese military activity in Arunachal Pradesh, particularly around the strategically sensitive Taksing region. Reports suggest that Indian and Chinese troops have been involved in a standoff near Asaphila since late July, despite efforts by military commanders to resolve tensions.

Kapur described the China frontier as India’s most difficult border and called China a powerful neighbour and the country’s biggest adversary. He stressed that conventional military tactics alone would not be sufficient to counter the PLA, which has invested heavily in modernising its weapons and infrastructure.

To strengthen India’s preparedness, the ITBP has established drone platoons across its border units, accelerated the construction of underground bunkers and introduced a specialised training programme called ‘Strike’ to prepare personnel for Galwan-like confrontations. The entire force is expected to complete the training by the end of 2027.

The latest disclosure is particularly significant because India and China held Corps Commander-level talks on September 6 at the Wacha-Damai border meeting point in Arunachal Pradesh.

The developments also revive memories of the deadly 2020 Galwan Valley clash, in which 20 Indian soldiers lost their lives. India and China share a disputed 3,488-km-long LAC, where differing perceptions of the boundary have repeatedly resulted in military confrontations.
