People didn’t know how to describe a powerful woman.

So they compared her to a man.

That’s the real story.

When Indira Gandhi was called “the only man in the government,” it revealed more about society than about her.

Because strength wasn’t seen as feminine.
Leadership wasn’t seen as feminine.

Today, the words have changed.

The pattern often hasn’t.

The goal was never to become “one of the men.”

The goal is a world where excellence no longer needs a masculine comparison.

Language shapes reality. If the highest compliment for a powerful woman is calling her a man… …what does that say about the way we define power?

A compliment tells you what people admire. This one revealed what they couldn’t imagine…
