While working as a reviewer and radio host, Pearce routinely faced severe misogynistic harassment and violent threats on social media. Upon realizing that a significant number of these anonymous trolls were actually young, school-aged boys, she decided that trying to reason with them rationally was useless. Instead, she began looking through the perpetrators’ public Facebook profiles to identify their family members.

Once she identified their family members, Pearce sent the mothers direct messages containing screenshots of the abusive messages and threats of s*xu@l violence their sons had written. This approach to online accountability received significant global attention and support when she shared screenshots of the parents’ reactions—with one mother expressing profound disappointment and promising to discipline her son for his behavior. Pearce explained that her goal was to introduce real-world consequences to digital harassment, ensuring authority figures in these individuals’ lives could address and correct toxic online behavior.
