It's Why Wednesday! Meet Felicia Dempsey.
I am in the accelerated nursing program at the University of North Alabama.
I am a deeply compassionate individual who has always felt a strong calling to help others in meaningful ways. For the past six years, I have worked in the mental health field as a therapist, where I have discovered a genuine passion for supporting individuals through their most vulnerable moments. This experience not only strengthened my commitment to patient care but also allowed me to witness the profound impact that empathy, patience, and understanding can have on a person’s well-being. My natural ability to connect with others has inspired me to pursue a career in nursing. This field will expand my capacity to provide holistic, hands-on care and make a difference in people’s lives every day. As I continue my professional journey, I plan to further my education to become a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.
One of the most rewarding aspects of ACONHP has been the opportunity it provides to continually build both my confidence and competence as a future nurse. The program’s thoughtfully designed structure immerses me in a diverse range of healthcare settings each semester, allowing me to expand my perspective, adapt to different clinical environments, and refine my skills with each new experience. Beyond the academic and clinical growth, ACONHP has also fostered meaningful and lasting relationships. The connections I have formed with my classmates have grown into genuine friendships that I will carry with me long after the program ends. While there have been moments of doubt where the path forward felt challenging, the unwavering encouragement and support from my classmates, friends, and family have been a constant source of motivation. Their belief in me has strengthened my own, giving me the confidence to persevere, overcome obstacles, and continue striving toward success.
