Title :- A place lives in me before I arrive.
Size :- 11.5×11.5
Medium:- walnut wood and copper plate
This body of work explores an imagined understanding of Kashmir, a place I have never physically visited. My perception of it is constructed through memory, inherited stories, and personal imagination rather than direct experience.
The chinar leaf, familiar since childhood, becomes a central visual and emotional reference through which I construct this imagined landscape. It acts as a symbol of Kashmir as I have internalized it fragile, poetic, and shaped by distance.
A walnut wood plate, brought by my father, carries the weight of memory and inheritance. It becomes a physical connection to a place I know only through imagination. Within it, the chinar leaf is reinterpreted as a form that holds both personal and cultural memory.
