HU Staff: Kecia Gayle @kecia.kae A beautiful 29-year-old mom from New York flew to Miami for a body she hoped would make her feel brand new. Sadly, she never made it back home, and now her family is asking how a clinic with a long paper trail was still open for business. ___________________________________________________ According to NBC Miami, Jennifer Arias traveled from New York to Miami for liposuction and a Brazilian Butt Lift at New Life Plastic Surgery on August 13. She touched down the day before, and the family says she was on the operating table early the next morning. Hours later, relatives got a call saying she was struggling to breathe. From there, she was rushed to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital, but she was already gone by the time her loved ones landed in South Florida. ___________________________________________________ Her mother, Monica Arias, told the outlet she fought her daughter on this decision. “I told her, don’t do it, don’t do it,” Monica recalled. The Miami-Dade Medical Examiner’s Office ruled her death an accident, citing fat embolisms in both lungs as a result of the surgeries. For those who aren’t aware, a fat embolism happens when fat gets into the bloodstream and travels to the lungs, and it is one of the most feared complications of the BBL. ___________________________________________________ Click the link in bio for full story 📸 @nbc6

“That’s my mom!” my 12-year-old son shouted as I walked across the stage at my convocation. After everything it had taken to get there, hearing him say those words brought me to tears. I was 21 when I got married in an arranged marriage, and soon after, we moved to the UK. Everything seemed happy at first, and I had no idea what lay ahead. I became a mother at 22, but soon, my marriage turned abusive. My husband cheated on me and physically assaulted me multiple times, while my in-laws made fun of everything I did. Hair colour karaya toh mazaak, kapde pehne toh mazaak. Even my skin colour and the way I walked became a joke. Eventually, my husband left. My son was 5, and my daughter was just one and a half. With no degree and two children to raise in the UK, I started working as a freelance makeup artist. I battled depression while trying to keep my family together, while my parents eventually moved countries to live closer to me. I knew I had to rebuild my life on my own terms. I was always curious about skin and how treatments worked. After my separation, I took courses, but I wanted to learn more about skincare, so in 2024, I joined a university. For three years, I juggled work, my business, studies and motherhood. I went from scoring in the 60s to achieving 90% in an assessment. There were sacrifices, too. My daughter would ask, “Mumma, everyone's parents come to school events, why don't you?” It broke my heart, but I kept going. On graduation day, I took my children out of school because I wanted them to see me walk that stage. My mother took a day off work too to celebrate the day with me. The moment my son shouted, ‘That’s my mom!’ I felt I had made it. The tears couldn’t stop flowing. My eight-year-old daughter now dreams of her own convocation. “Mumma, you have to come, wear a nice dress, and scream for me!” she said. I promised I'd scream my lungs out. Today, I have my degree, my own beauty studio, and two children who have seen me figure things out one day at a time. I remember wondering how I would raise them and build a life for us. And today, I can finally look back and say, ‘I did it. I found a way to make everything work.'"
one happy gal 💛
