Turkey's most-watched pro-opposition news channel, Halk TV, has been taken over by a government-appointed trustee after a police raid. The move raises fresh concerns about a wider crackdown on press freedom – and how much space remains to criticize President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his government ahead of the 2028 elections. #DWNews

🇿🇦 Tyla and Epic Records have announced a scholarship for the next generation of women in music. The “That Girl” Music Scholarship will support 10 students with $5,000 each: four in South Africa and six in the United States. The funding goes directly to their educational institutions to help cover tuition and required fees for studies in music and the arts. Priority is given to students at historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs). The programme is administered by the Institute of International Education (IIE). Its stated application deadline is October 30, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time, with an earlier closure once 50 eligible applications have been received. What is the biggest barrier facing young women who want to build a career in music? 📸 @tyla / @rosannaelettra
