Good morning, Bulls! My name is Chloe Jones and I'm a rising honors senior with a major in chemistry and minor in philosophy and nutrition. This summer, I'm at my second REU program at The Ohio State University National eXtreme Ultrafast Spectroscopy (NeXUS) facility whre I'm working with the Sokolov computational chemistry group.
For the last nine weeks, I've been using computational chemistry methods to study the electronic structure of the flavin chromophore in light-oxygen-voltage sensing (LOV) domains and how their protein environments influence their photochemical properties. The coolest part: I get to simulate UV-Vis spectra to investigate excited electronic states and learn more about how these reactions occur on the quantum level!
Today, I'm taking over the Honors Instagram to show what it's like to present your research at the symposium at the end of an REU program. I'm excited to answer questions and show more about my research. I'll be posting updates throughout the day, so check back frequently!
