In an op-ed for South China Morning Post, DUSP doctoral student Hung Vo analyses Indonesia’s recent financial sector reform law, arguing that it promises to improve the country’s shallow and volatile capital markets. However, he cautions that financial deepening does not automatically generate developmental gains and can create intermediaries and inflate asset prices while producing little growth in the productive economy.
