Lincoln, it’s been a week since I held your big, sweet head in my lap as you took your last breath. I’ll never be the same after meeting you. You changed my life.
I met you when you were brought into the Humane Society of Missouri where I was working at the time in 2021. A good samaritan found you wandering the streets in South St. Louis weighing just 37 pounds as an adult bullmastiff. The doctors said you wouldn’t have made it another couple days, but they nursed you back to health and we showered you in love and treats. Once you were healthy enough to go out on the adoption floor, I knew I couldn’t let that happen- you were coming home with me.
Despite all you went through at such a young age, you never lost your sweetness, and never met a person you didn’t love (even when it’s the man on the corner screaming slurs at us…). You were a local celebrity, and people would come from across the block just to pet you and give you hugs- your very favorite thing.
You always had such an intuitive ability to read
@jaredburetta and my emotions, and when you could see that we were feeling sad, you’d come rest your head in our lap to let us know that everything was okay. You’ll always be our best friend.
The amount of time we had together was nowhere near long enough, but you will be remembered and loved forever and ever. Until we meet again, my big sweet boy 🐶❤️🩹
