Sometimes the greatest advantage you can have in life isn’t money, talent or connections.
It’s having someone who genuinely believes in you.
One thing we do at Sashed With Excellence is tell stories. Stories of people. Stories of partnerships. Stories of the little things that often go unnoticed but make all the difference.
I’ve had the privilege of knowing Japhet and Leona for a while now, and there’s something about Leona that has always stood out to me.
She shows up.
Whether it’s a music tour, an event, a rehearsal or another opportunity for Japhet to do what he loves, she’s there. Not for the pictures. Not because people are watching. She just genuinely enjoys being in his corner.
I’ve watched her celebrate him in a way that feels natural. You don’t get the impression that she’s forcing support because that’s what wives are supposed to do. She simply believes in what he’s building.
And before anyone misunderstands me, this isn’t to suggest that Japhet isn’t equally supportive. From what I’ve seen, they both show up for each other. That’s probably why it works.
It just reminded me that life becomes a little lighter when you’re not carrying your dreams alone.
There is something reassuring about looking into the crowd and knowing there’s at least one person who wants you to win as much as you do. Someone who will celebrate the small milestones, encourage you after the disappointing days and still be present when nobody else remembers.
We celebrate individual success a lot, but sometimes the real story is the person quietly standing beside it.
Choose people who clap for you when the room is empty.
And if God has already given you one, don’t take them for granted.
