HU Staff: Kecia Gayle @kecia.kae With the November 3 election just days away, Tamica Small’s campaign for Stockton City Council District 1 has brought together national political figures, organized labor and local leaders around a message of safer neighborhoods, stronger government accountability and renewed cooperation at City Hall. ___________________________________________________ Small, a lifelong Stockton resident, retired San Joaquin County probation officer and substitute teacher, is challenging incumbent Councilmember Michele Padilla in a race that will help determine the direction of Stockton’s city government. Her campaign has attracted attention well beyond the city, including an endorsement from Texas Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett, the backing of Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 1021 and the highly visible support of her brother, Stockton District 6 Councilmember Jason Lee. ___________________________________________________ Small brings more than 22 years of experience in the probation system, where she worked with individuals navigating the criminal justice system while gaining firsthand experience with public safety, rehabilitation and community supervision. A mother of three and lifelong Stockton resident, Small has emphasized the connection between neighborhood safety, youth opportunity and community investment. Her public safety platform includes establishing a police substation in District 1, improving neighborhood policing, strengthening relationships between residents and law enforcement, and addressing police staffing and retention. ___________________________________________________ Click the link in bio for full story 📸 Russell Stiger Jr., OBSERVER
The Profit Sharing Paradox Singapore Airlines just handed its staff a bonus worth eight months of salary after posting record profits, and the internet is losing its mind trying to figure out what to call it. The meme gets it right: this is not a glitch in capitalism, this is capitalism doing exactly what it said on the tin. Here is the thing about Rome that everyone forgets when they reduce it to bread and circuses and conquest. The Roman merchant class, the negotiatores, understood something fundamental: a worker who eats well, sleeps well, and feels invested in the outcome of the business works harder, complains less, and does not burn the warehouse down. Profit sharing was not charity in the ancient world, it was infrastructure. You were buying loyalty the same way you bought stone for an aqueduct, because the return on investment was obvious to anyone who could count. The British East India Company, the Dutch VOC, the early American railroad barons, they all had the same playbook available to them and chose extraction over investment every single time. That choice created the reputation capitalism now has to fight against at every turn. Singapore Airlines did the math differently and the result is a workforce that treats the brand like it belongs to them, because in a very real sense, this bonus makes it so. The prank is that we have spent two centuries arguing about whether capitalism is moral or immoral when the actual question was always simpler: are the people running the enterprise smart enough to know that shared prosperity compounds, and pure extraction does not. Singapore Airlines apparently read the manual. Most did not. #AncientRome #BreadAndCircuses #HumanNature

Happy 251st Marines! For 251 years, Marines have stood ready to fight and win our Nation’s battles. Since before the first days of the American Revolution to the engagements of today, the Marine Corps has served as a decisive naval and amphibious force, projecting power, defending our interests, and helping turn the tide in conflicts around the world. Across every clime and place, Marines remain ready to be the first to fight whenever and wherever our Nation needs them. As America’s 9-1-1 force, the Marine Corps continues to set the standard for readiness, resolve, and warfighting excellence. Semper Fidelis & Happy Birthday, Marines!
