I designed this years @skyarts awards statuette. I literally punched the air when I was asked to do this. I’ve wanted to do something like this for so long and it was such an honour to be asked! My concept was paying it forward. It’s a Russian doll design! The winner gets the first one. Then inside there are two more. One that you give away as a thank you and another for an up and coming artist to acknowledge them and encourage them to keep going. I feel like it’s harder than ever these days to keep functioning as an artist. The @skyarts awards acknowledges this and reminds us of the joy in what we do and that it’s all worth it! It was so great to see all different forms of art and people at different stages of their creative journey being recognised. What a pleasure to be a part of it! #skyarts #skyartsawards #skyartsawards2026 #award #art
As a Black woman, I am deeply uninterested in proving and showing to people how much pain I can endure. Or looking “graceful” in response to literal harm and abuse. It isn’t the flex people think it is. I should be allowed to show people what joy looks like too. And nobody should have to see what I’ve been through first to deem me worthy of it. I’m not reauditioning for people who weren’t there from the beginning. I’m enough, right now and TUH DAY! What @selenagomez is doing in the mental health space is incredible and deeply inspiring to me. Thank you for giving a voice and a space for the often overlooked 🫶🏾 and thank you for having me at yet another successful @rareimpactfund_ gala!
