💙 A little muscari inspiration for spring…

Every autumn, I love finding new ways to plant muscari bulbs. These little grape hyacinths are such cheerful signs of spring, and I think they look just as lovely in an old vintage container as they do planted in the garden.

Over the years, I’ve planted them in vintage jam jars, a galvanised jug and bowl set, little pots, old pans and our garden borders. You really don’t need anything fancy to create a beautiful display, sometimes the simplest, most unexpected containers are my favourites.

This year, I’m trying something a little different and planting 125 muscari bulbs in an extra-large vintage sieve! 💙 I can’t wait to see how it looks when they flower in spring.

A few little tips if you’re planting muscari bulbs this autumn:

🌱 Plant them around 8–10cm deep, with the pointed end facing upwards.
🌱 Choose a sunny or partially shaded spot with reasonably well-drained soil. If you’re using containers, make sure excess water can drain away. Thankfully the sieve came well prepared! 😂
🌱 Plant them fairly close together in pots for a lovely full display, or scatter them through your borders for little pockets of blue in spring.

And don’t forget the squirrels! I cover my freshly planted bulbs with chicken wire, secured firmly in place, to help stop them digging everything up. Choose mesh that allows the shoots to grow through, or remove it when the shoots emerge.

Muscari are such easy little bulbs to grow, and they come back year after year when they’re happy in their spot.

Which display is your favourite?

Save this post for your autumn bulb planting, and swipe through to see all the ideas! 💙

Thanks so much to @gardenersdreamuk for kindly gifting me the bulbs!
