-MOVEMENT JOURNAL #22 – PARIS, FRANCE 🇫🇷-
Our dance residency in France had just come to an end.
Before my friend Aqiong, a dancer from the London-based collective I’m part of, headed back to London, there was one thing I wanted her to discover: French pâtisserie.
So we found ourselves in Butte-aux-Cailles, sharing a chocolate flan from Laurent Duchêne.
We took one bite… then looked at each other in complete disbelief.
How can a flan taste like this?
I immediately thought of an improvisation task our choreographer Adrian Look had given us a few days earlier: “Stay in the clouds with me.”
At the time, I hadn’t chosen to embody that invitation.
But standing there, with this impossible taste still lingering, I suddenly understood it through my body. It wasn’t about imagining the clouds anymore. It was about recognising the feeling of being carried somewhere so light that you almost don’t want to come back down.
So I turned to Aqiong and said, “Let’s dance what we just experienced.”
This little dance is dedicated to Adrian
@adrian_lookatmovement and to Laurent
@laurentduchene_paris whose chocolate flan unexpectedly became our choreographer for the afternoon.
