POV: You’re 6’1” and think your squats look awkward.

If you’re tall, your squat will almost never look like someone who’s 5’4” and that’s okay.

Longer femurs change your mechanics. You’ll naturally lean forward a little more and need more hip travel to reach depth. That doesn’t mean your form is bad. It means your body is built differently.

That’s exactly why I love sumo squats and goblet squats.

1) A wider stance can reduce stress on the knees by allowing the hips to do more of the work.

2) Holding the weight in front during goblet squats helps you stay more upright, making it easier to brace and control the movement.

If you’re tall and your knees have been bothering you:

• Don’t force a stance that doesn’t suit your build.
• Let your knees track over your toes.
• Sit back into your hips and stay in control.
• Strengthen your glutes, hamstrings and core, they help take pressure off the knees.

Stop comparing your squat to someone with completely different lever lengths. Train for your anatomy, not someone else’s.

Tall lifters were built differently, not incorrectly. 💪🏾
