Happy 20th Birthday to the Barbell Hip Thrust! What a wild ride it’s been. Swipe left to see all 20 slides (or go to YouTube and watch the entire 25 min clip). In this video, I take you through chronological order of the events that led to the hip thrust being what it is today. From things that influenced me to create the hip thrust, to critical tools and equipment that helped the hip thrust be more effective and more easily performed, to key individuals who played a role in the evolution of the hip thrust, to how technique and equipment has progressed over time. I’ve noticed a strange phenomenon where people claim to have been doing them before I came around. And yet there’s not a single clip or photo of anyone doing it. Not in any magazine. Not in any journal. Not in any book. Not in any movie or documentary. Hell, not even in the background of any gym scene. How likely is that, lol? They’re lying. I don’t know why, but people have bizarre memories. If they were being done, people would have said something in 2009 when I first started writing about it online. But show me some evidence and I’ll document it - I’m a historian of S&C too. At any rate, the credit goes to the first person to create a system around them, the first person to document them, and the first person to heavily promote them online. We live in a day and age where people don’t seem to like giving credit where credit is due, but I deserve this. I’ve made it the focal point of my life to spread the merits of hip thrusting to the masses. I’ve worked my ass off (or on) popularizing this movement over the past two decades and I hope you guys appreciate the trip down memory lane.
