high traffic uses l4 load balancers but auth is necessary so live application uses l7 to authentucate once and after the handshake is done, then switch to l4

short correction L4 load balancer can also be put in front of various DB and the application who can TCP/UDP

L4 works at the Tcp or Udp level But L7 works at Http or application level.
