في مسيرة أكاديمية ومهنية غير تقليدية، جمعت فاطمة آل بنور بين دراسات الصراع والسلام، والتنمية الدولية والعلاقات، والعلاج المجتمعي، وصولًا إلى الإدارة الاستراتيجية والعمل في مجالات تقنية.

وترى آل بنور أن اختلاف التخصصات لم يكن تشتتًا، بل رحلة متصلة بدأت بفهم الإنسان والمجتمع، واتجهت لاحقًا إلى فهم القرار والتغيير والتكنولوجيا وأثرها على الإنسان.

وخلال حديثها في برنامج «ألوان الناس»، قالت: «إحنا كبشر وايد أكبر من المسميات والوظيفة اللي إحنا فيها»، مؤكدة أن الإنسان لا يجب أن يحصر نفسه في مسار واحد، وأن التعلم والتجربة قد يفتحان أبوابًا لم تكن ضمن الخطة الأولى.
