One lesser-known chapter of Nana Patekar’s life deserves to be remembered. ❤️🇮🇳 While preparing for Prahaar, Nana had undergone three years of rigorous military training with the Maratha Light Infantry and completed a commando course. When the Kargil War broke out in 1999, he wanted to go to the front and stand with the soldiers. The Army initially declined, as he was a civilian. Nana then called his friend, the then Defence Minister George Fernandes. Even Fernandes initially said no. Nana reminded him of his military training and national-level shooting experience. Fernandes finally asked, “When do you want to go?” Nana replied, “Today.” He eventually spent nearly two months with the troops including Dras and other forward areas, even becoming part of a Quick Reaction Team. For a man who played soldiers on screen, Nana Patekar chose, when the moment came, to stand beside the real soldiers. That perhaps tells you more about the man than any of his films ever could. RIP, Nana. 🙏 #sarcasm #nanapatekar #legend #rip #respect
