Five Stars. Oil on cut linen collage on canvas. Hand painted. Photographed at

Five Stars is a protest painting—an indictment of war and the callousness of those who fuel it. At the center is a decorated figure, a four-star general whose cartoonish confidence belies the gravity of his role. His stars are almost ironic: a promotion of destruction disguised as honor.
The work critiques not only war itself, but the warmongering mindset—the policymakers and powerbrokers who treat devastation as strategy. While the subject is serious, the painting carries an undercurrent of dark humor. The general’s exaggerated features and smug expression reflect the absurdity, even the absurd comfort, with which some view the machinery of war.
Patterns etched into the general’s face add to this distortion. They hint at both camouflage and corruption—layers of ideology and ego shaping his identity. His military jacket, elaborately stylized, becomes a costume: a performance of authority worn by someone whose thinking is focused not on people, but on the destruction of people and their land.
This is a painting with a punch—serious in its intent, but edged with satire. A reminder that beneath the uniforms and medals are still just men, and sometimes, dangerous ones.
