An internal investigation by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (#CMPD) has reportedly found โ€œno evidenceโ€ that a racist group chat involving officers impacted criminal cases or law enforcement actions.๐Ÿ˜ณ๐Ÿ‘€ Police Chief Estella Patterson announced that the department reviewed body camera footage, arrest records, traffic stop data, and complaint histories to determine whether the officersโ€™ alleged biases influenced their work. โ€œAs of this point, we have not found any evidence of this,โ€ Patterson said. ICYMI: the investigation stems from a group chat uncovered during a separate State Bureau of Investigation inquiry into an officerโ€™s misuse of #Flock cameras. The messages reportedly spanned several years and contained racial, s3xual, and religious bias. Itโ€™s also alleged that the officers used the group chat to compete over who could pull over the most Black drivers. According to reports, over half a dozen officers were involved. Three have since resigned, while an internal board unanimously recommended terminating three others. Patterson described her reaction as โ€œone of disgust, anger and frustration,โ€ adding, โ€œThe allegations against them are serious, theyโ€™re deeply troubling, and frankly, Iโ€™m disappointed that weโ€™re even having to talk about this today.โ€ Although the department says it hasnโ€™t uncovered evidence of discriminatory enforcement, Patterson says sheโ€™s pushing for further accountability. CMPD plans to seek the revocation of the officersโ€™ #NorthCarolina law enforcement certifications, and she has requested a federal review for potential civil rights violations. The department is also strengthening body camera audits, reviewing hiring practices, and expanding oversight measures to prevent similar misconduct. #TJBCrew, are yโ€™all satisfied with the outcome of this investigation?๐Ÿš”
