HALLELUJAH CHALLENGE || OCT 2026 || DAY 16

Halloween night w my sis💘

I love Alaska and Lake Clark National Park. It’s one of the most majestic places I’ve ever seen, and the abundant wildlife is hard to find anywhere else. After three trips, it’s truly special.

But the park and its animals are at risk. And it bums me out.

Inside Lake Clark National Park, there’s a push to open a gold mine called the Johnson Tract Mine. Although the site is on private land (inside the NP boundary, a quirky Alaska thing), they’d still have to build roads and other infrastructure through diverse ecosystems on public land. And we know what happens with mining. Things get dirty. Accidents happen. Toxic materials get out.

For this mine in particular, conservation advocates worry that sulfuric acid generation and toxic heavy-metal leaching could contaminate the Johnson River. Additionally, building a 20-mile haul road and a deep-water port would cause massive soil erosion and disrupt ecosystems.

All of that could threaten brown bears, salmon, and so much more.

To me, that risk is not worth taking.

If you agree:

>> Comment “Alaska” and I’ll send you the link to sign the petition to stop the Johnson Tract Mine. <<

Send this to a friend who loves bears. Share this with your family who has visited Alaska – or wants to.

Together. We can stop this.
