💿🎨 There was a time when your music player could look like absolutely anything. Back in the early 2000s, Winamp let users download custom skins that changed the entire look of their music player. From futuristic control panels and alien heads to cars, video game characters, and completely ridiculous designs. People spent hours finding the perfect skin, tweaking their desktops, and making their computers feel like their own. Looking back, it's pretty wild how much personality software used to have. Today, most apps follow the same clean, minimal design. So perhaps next time you ask ChatGPT or Claude to design something for you, think back to this post. Give it some direction, bring your own taste into the process, and try to create something that feels unique. We might have lost a little something along the way. Did you ever use Winamp? 👀

He was listing women like items at a sari sale. Watching that clip I kept thinking this could have been me. Orthodox family. Biodata number announced on a mic. Married at 25, two kids, as long as my rotis were round. Instead my family asked me what I wanted. And then let me answer. I thought that clip was extreme until I attended a community matchmaking event last month. Big screen. Girls’ profiles projected in front of the entire community. Age, weight, complexion, measurements. Families huddled together, pointing, zooming in, commenting. Every profile was a real woman with a job, a personality, dreams. And not one person in that room asked what she wanted. Standing there I called my very annoying family and thanked them. Because they never made me feel like my worth depended on fitting someone else’s idea of a good wife. Not every woman gets that. And until she does, we will keep having this conversation.
