My thoughts after watching The Odyssey 🎬

Sooner or later, each of us realizes that we are undergoing a transformation—a journey of healing. We are gradually setting out on a path toward ourselves, just as Odysseus sets out on his journey home.

But on the path to finding ourselves and our inner home, we encounter many obstacles — monsters. Often, these obstacles do not exist in the outside world, but within us: in our fears, doubts, weaknesses, and unhealed pain.

To keep moving forward, we must find the courage to face them and walk through them instead of running away. Like the Lotus-Eaters, we can become distracted, forget who we are, and lose sight of where we are going. We must also accept that some losses are inevitable along the way—Odysseus ultimately loses his entire crew. When Circe turns his men into pigs, it can be seen as a symbol of losing one’s higher nature when desire, pleasure, and instinct take control. The journey back to ourselves begins precisely where we stop avoiding our own depths. And just as in the story, the gods—or the universe—help those who act. Athena supports Odysseus, but she does not complete the journey for him.

In my view, the true value of this film lies not so much in its cast, spectacular scenes, or cinematography, but in the depth, meaning, and symbolism conveyed on screen.

This is a story that is more than two thousand years old, yet human nature has hardly changed. We are still searching for ourselves, confronting our fears, passing through temptation, and trying to find our way home—to complete the journey back to who we truly are. And Penelope has my deepest admiration for protecting her values, maintaining her boundaries, and preserving her inner strength for so many years.
