I spent the day with the lovely team at @animalaid.vic in Coldstream, Victoria, getting a glimpse into animal sheltering in Australia! Shelters here face many of the same challenges as those in the US, so fostering, adopting, and desexing are essential. So many precious animals are waiting for homes! If you know anyone nearby, please share. And if you live in the area, consider signing up to foster! Swipe to the end to see if @kitty_fostering_oz and I left with a kitten… (We did. We named her Birdie!) While there, I also collected DNA samples from cats and dogs for the genetic research team at @wisdompanel! Australia is the 6th country where I’ve swabbed animals for their genetic health research, and I can’t wait to see the results. In order of appearance: 1. Bonded boys Pecan Pie (135628) and Cake (135629) 2. The Animal Aid team ❤️ 3. My favorite room: a beautiful catio where cats take turns enjoying fresh air, climbing, and playing. 4. Meerkat! He needed orthopedic care as a young kitten, but thanks to the medical team he’s now healthy, 10 months old, and ready for adoption! 5. Meerkat (134293) again because he’s so sweet and we all want him to find a home. 6. Rascal (136185), a happy lil ball of energy 7. Kiwi (136477), a gentle fluffy lady 8. Pint (135858), such a sweet guy 9. Buddy (134958), probably my favorite cat of the day! He has a cloudy eye, a short bobtail, the fur of a beloved stuffed animal, and a deep purr. He is awesome. 10. This puppy doesn’t have a name yet, but she sure is cute! (136052) 11. Catt Damon (136099), a tender lil guy 12. Harry (136232), a happy kelpie mix 13. Lolly (133684), a young fluffy gal 14. French Fry (136395), a gentle giant with amazing jowls 15. Tiggs (136588), a soft, slightly chonky boy 16. Luna (136097), a calm, good girl 17. Panda (127904), who has the sweetest face ever 18. Leaving with Birdie and Amber! 19. Birdie (136628) was so skinny. She wants to eat solid food but hasn’t quite figured out how yet. 20. Helping Birdie learn to eat, one tiny bite at a time. ❤️
