Ad | Sirga’s second encounter with the DJI Avata 360… and almost the drone’s last. 😅 She’s quite relaxed around our other drones, but this one is new and sounds different, and she’s clearly still getting used to it. Having known her almost her entire life, I recognise that face, that tail and that rush forward before backing off. It’s not at all unnatural. It looks just like the warnings she gives birds of prey or crows several times a day when they get too close to her or her food. But a warning isn’t an empty threat. If they don’t retreat and she catches them, her strength can make the encounter fatal, without her necessarily eating them. Among predators, killing can remove a competitor or threat without being about food. When Sirga hunts for a meal, I see a different approach: concealment, an ambush and full commitment. Here, I read her message as “back off” - and the drone nearly found out what happens if you don’t. To me, this brief encounter gives her something to respond to, much like those everyday flying visitors. We filmed at her enclosure after she’d eaten, with no hunt interrupted. Please don’t take this as an invitation to fly close to wild animals. Sirga’s circumstances are unique. Follow local drone regulations, seek expert local guidance and always give wildlife its space. #sirgathelioness #dji #djiavata360 #wildlife #nature
