I try to approach everything in life with sensitivity and compassion. I hope that is apparent in this post.

Let’s instill hope and encouragement rather than judgment.

Thank you for sharing ❤️ many don’t understand the fuel they are adding to the fire that is the complexity of body image and eating disorders

Thank you for saying this. As an eating disorder therapist, I totally get how hard it can be for people to witness celebrities undergo extreme shrinking. At the same time, like you said, we don’t have the whole story. I hope that the people who DO have more insight into the situation are supporting her and encouraging her to make choices to care for herself (like stepping away from public appearances), but as people without an actual relationship with her, that’s not our responsibility. What IS a potential way to channel the feelings that come up is to have conversations about our own relationships to our own bodies and how we can support one another with that.

Thank you for eloquently explaining the complexities of EDs as well as the importance of not commenting on other people’s bodies!

Very well said, Lex! There is so much nuance and unknown within this topic. Like you said, it’s understandable to be concerned, and we also don’t know for sure what is going on. Appreciate hearing your thoughts on this!

I very much appreciate what you wrote and the thoughtful way it was written. If there is one thing I have learned from these past 5 days of on-line discourse is that the Internet (public) continues to know very little about eating disorders but acts as if it does.
