Still one of the best quotes of all time 🙌🏼
How were you taught to view “man hunter” and the women who were gatherers? This blew my mind! Great book! #patriarchy #booktok #womenshealth #huntergatherer #feminism
Ape Index of the average V11 boulderer is +5.6cm. But what about the average V5 boulderer? Or the 8a redpointer? Is there a trend in Ape Index across the sports climbing and bouldering spectrum and what can we learn from it? This week we looked at one of the physiological attributes that’s been argued over for decades, partly as it’s very easy to measure and also because climbers at the far ends of the spectrum will swear it’s a signifcant advantage or disadvatge! Funnily enough, we analysed this one years ago, but we thought it would be interesting to check again and - specifically this time - look at variability across the 2 disciplines to see if any differences occurred, because in the early days of Lattice we had a much smaller data pool and weren’t able to break it down into statistically signifcant results across the disciplines and across the full spectrum of grades. As you can see from the graphs and stats, there IS a small trend in (increasing) Ape Index as grade increases but the effect size is very small. Were we surprised? Not really.... partly, as we’d looked at this in the past, but also because ape index is quite a ‘coarse’ biometric and more interesting research would be to look at additional factors such as torso length, leg length and shoulder-width-to-hip-width. Anyone fancy a study?! What would you like us to look at next in the data? Let us know 🤓
